New Year’s Eve Soundscape: A Three-Hour Journey Into Renewal
Join the NPSOY school community kirtan with Priyan, Galton and Marill, and special guest Gabrielle Mendoza from Bhakti Collective as they lead you through an intimate and joyful evening of devotional singing.
Kirtan is call-and-response devotional singing. In the Bhakti tradition, it’s one of the oldest and most accessible paths — yoga of the heart rather than the body. Where āsana steadies the body and meditation steadies the mind, Kirtan works through sound and devotion: the repetition quiets mental chatter, the shared voice dissolves self-consciousness, and the practitioner arrives at the same still, absorbed state we seek on the mat. No experience or “good voice” needed — only willingness to show up and sing.
That’s why we’ve chosen this for our Yoga Day celebrations: a reminder that yoga is far wider than postures, and that practising together as a community is a joy in itself.
